Matson’s seven-year, $900+ million Hawaii fleet renewal is complete with the additions of Kanaloa Class combination container/roll-on, roll-off (“con-ro”) vessels Lurline and Matsonia. Along with Aloha Class container ships Daniel K. Inouye and Kaimana Hila, Lurline and Matsonia operate in our Hawaii and China services, calling at Ningbo, and Shanghai, Long Beach, Oakland, and Honolulu.
The Kanaloa Class vessels have an enclosed garage for approximately 500 vehicles, plus ample space for rolling stock and breakbulk cargo. Equipped with the latest “green” technology, all four Kanaloa and Aloha Class ships feature fuel-efficient hull designs, environmentally safe double hull fuel tanks, fresh water ballast systems, and – in the case of the Kanaloa Class – the first Tier 3 dual-fuel engines deployed in containerships serving U.S. West Coast ports. All of Matson’s new vessels are part of a larger $1 billion investment in modernizing Matson’s Hawaii service. Learn more about Matson’s latest investments.
